Evenly coat one side of each bread slice with softened butter or mayonnaise, making sure to reach all edges for complete coverage.

Place two bread slices, spread-side down, into the air fryer basket. Arrange half the cheddar and half the havarti over each slice, covering thoroughly.

Top with the remaining bread slices, spread-side up. Insert toothpicks through the center if the bread is thin or lightweight.

Set the air fryer temperature to 370°F (188°C). Cook sandwiches for 4 minutes on the first side. Preheating is not required unless specified by the manufacturer.

Carefully flip each sandwich using a spatula. Cook for an additional 4 minutes, or until both sides are golden brown and crisp.
